The MPD’s 46th Annual Washington Area Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Service was held Monday, May 5, 2025.

The MPD and the DC Police Memorial hold a regional service each May to honor officers who died in the line of duty in the past year and also all our fallen heroes since the creation of the MPD by President Abraham Lincoln.

Investigator Wayne David of the MPDC was honored and members of his family attended. As a member of the MPD, Investigator David’s name was inscribed on the DC Police Memorial Wall.

For more than 80 years, the DC Police Memorial has served as a place of solace and reflection for surviving family members, friends, colleagues and others who have kept their memories alive.  In 2023, a Memorial Wall was added with the names inscribed of all MPD officers who have died in the line of duty.

The ceremony also honored law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty regionally, including:

Parole and Probation Agent David Martinez – MD Department of Safety and Corrections

Officer Daoud Mingo – Baltimore City Police Dept

The service is a solemn reminder of their selfless service and sacrifice, and the immeasurable debt of gratitude we owe to officers who have given their life to serve and protect our communities.

The Memorial is located in front of the Daly building, the historic headquarters of the MPD, at 300 Indiana Avenue, NW.

Due to the weather, the ceremony was held at One Judiciary Square instead of the Memorial itself.
